چکیده

The syndrome of celiac trunk compression (or celiac axis compression syndrome) is a nosologic entity that has been recently introduced in the abdominal vascular pathology field based on the clinical-radiological observations by correlating abdominal symptoms caused by the compression of celiac trunk crura (Dunbar et al., 1965). Since then, several cases have been reported describing this syndrome (Debray & Leymarios, 1968; Fadhli, 1968; Harjola, 1968; Edwards, 1969; Hivet & Lagadec, 1970; Stanley & Fry, 1971; Ciscato et al., 1976; Joubaud et al., 1977; Kokotsakis et al., 2000; Roayaie et al., 2000; Dordoni et al., 2002; Alehan & Dogan, 2004 and Desmond & Roberts, 2004). This syndrome is characterized by the triad abdominal pain, systolic bruit and stenosis of the celiac trunk (Thevenet et al., 1985).

A Severe Case of Median Arcuate Ligament Syndrome with Successful Angioplasty and Stenting

Median arcuate ligament syndrome (MAL) or celiac axis compression syndrome (CACS) is a rare etiology of chronic abdominal pain. Traditional treatment of this syndrome is surgery. We report a case of median arcuate ligament syndrome with a severe compression of the celiac trunk, which was successfully treated by angioplasty with stenting.

Ultrasonographic diagnosis of median arcuate ligament syndrome: a report of two cases.

The compression of the proximal part of the celiac trunk by median arcuate ligament of the diaphragm during expiration is defined as median arcuate ligament syndrome. It is a rare cause of chronic mesenteric ischemia. We report two cases with this syndrome, primarily diagnosed by Doppler ultrasound. The diagnosis was confirmed with digital substraction and computed tomography angiography in bot...

Median arcuate ligament syndrome: case presentation and video‐illustrated laparoscopic management

Laparoscopic release of the median arcuate ligament, to relieve symptomatic compression of the celiac trunk, is the ideal approach when performed in a specialized center, by a surgeon with the adequate experience in advanced laparoscopic surgery.

Three-Dimensional High-Definition Laparoscopic Treatment of Dunbar Syndrome (Celiac Axis Compression by Median Arcuate Ligament Hypertrophy) With Intra-Operative Laparoscopic Duplex Ultrasound Evaluation: Report of Two Cases

Introduction: Dunbar syndrome consists in a rare vascular disorder characterized by extrinsic compression of the celiac artery. This mechanic compression results in symptoms related to intermittent mesenteric ischemia. The goal of treatment is to release celiac artery compression and to restore vessel patency. Here we report two cases treated in our Surgical Department over the last four years....

Ultrasound of the median arcuate ligament syndrome: a new approach to diagnosis.

INTRODUCTION The currently accepted pathophysiological concept behind median arcuate ligament syndrome (MALS) is vascular compromise by atypically positioned median arcuate ligament. Despite many articles on MALS, only sparse data on the outcome in general and the rather poor outcome after intervention have been reported and this makes at least questionable the current concepts of the underlyin...

Surgical treatment of median arcuate ligament syndrome: case report and review of literature.

INTRODUCTION Median arcuate ligament (MAL) syndrome, also called celiac trunk compression syndrome (CACS) or Dunbar syndrome is a rare disorder caused by compression of the celiac artery by median arcuate ligament of the diaphragm, which leads to mesenteric ischemia and chronic abdominal angina. The typical clinical triad of symptoms includes postprandial epigastric pain, weight loss and vomiti...
